*Me:* A cooler-than-average mom (right? RIGHT?) who isn’t particularly girly but likes those rare products that succeed in combining fashion with function. Kids are a bit older so I don’t have to carry diapers anymore. However, as a type 1 diabetic, I have to leave the house with a few more things than the average person. I mostly work at home but commute into an office once per week. I have achieved going completely paperless, relying only on my iPad for work stuff. At 5 feet tall I am considered petite, but am otherwise average. I do have fairly broad shoulders (relative to my size), which can make backpacks (and shirts and jackets) a bit tricky. *What I Wanted:* A cute bag that was easy to carry around on errands and days away from the house. My crossbody bags were starting to hurt my shoulder and always felt in the way. I wanted something that had the comfort of a backpack but didn’t make me look like I was about to go camping (I have a traditional backpack for times when I need to leave with more stuff). I wanted something that could comfortably carry the basics I need during the day, but also with the option to squeeze in my iPad and Bluetooth keyboard for the rare commute into the office. *The Purchase:* I decided to give the Kanken Mini a try. I saw one at Urban Outfitters and loved how it looked cool yet functional. And it’s European so that automatically makes it cooler. I started looking online and it immediately became clear that Amazon was NOT a good place for this particular purchase. So many people had ended up with fakes. Thankfully, some people posted excellent videos on YouTube showing how to spot a fake Kanken, so I knew what to look for. I ultimately bit the bullet and got mine from Zappos, an authorized retailer. I paid $67 for the color I wanted (royal blue with pinstripe pattern - neutral but with a little color). After reading reviews, I opted for an older mode Kanken that had been manufactured in Vietnam. This model includes the flag on the label and seems to reduce the odds of getting a fake. *Unboxing:* The first thing I did when I got my Kanken was look over the bag to make extra sure it was a legitimate Kanken product and not a fake. For example, I looked at the label to make sure it was attached with quality tine and included a colored logo. I checked all the stitching (one sign of a fake is poor-quality stitching), the snaps and zippers (snaps should have a fox on them and the zippers should also include the fox and company name), the internal label, and the overall quality of the material (a real Kanken will be made of a stiff, thick material, whereas fakes are often made of softer, less stiff material). Thankfully, I got a real one. My overall first-impressions were positive although I was briefly concerned it was too small for my needs. The material is satisfyingly stiff and overall it feels high quality, like something that can be used every day and not show wear easily. Despite it’s overall small appearance on the outside, the inside looked roomy. The bag’s squarish design provides a lot of internal functional space. *Packing it Up!:* On a typical day when leaving the house (to run errands, traipse around the city, kid outings, etc), I always carry the following in my bag: * Small bifold wallet * Omnipod PDM (the remote control for my insulin pump) * Extra pods (the other half of my insulin pump) * Some other “diabetes stuff” (vial of insulin, spare syringes, test strips, batteries, a spare sensor for my continuous glucose monitor) * Fast-acting glucose (several things of smarties, fruit snacks, and Gu gels) * iPhone 8+ in a LifeProof case * Charging cables for iPhone and Apple Watch * Small Bluetooth headphones * Solar-powered charger (about the same size as an iPhone) (this may seem extreme, but my iPhone doubles as a receiver for my Dexcom continuous glucose monitor, so having it charged at all times is really important) * Lipgloss (several varieties) * Small tube of sunscreen * Work ID and metro card * Small set of keys I tried a few different ways to pack up my essentials, and ultimately found it was best to put all small items into little zippered pouches. I found a couple of different ones laying around my house and a couple of other ones for cheap at my local Homegoods store. I will eventually upgrade these, but for now they work for all the small stuff. They also help maximize the internal compartment. Without these pouches, all the small stuff sinks down to the bottom, leaving the upper portion empty. I found the pouches helped use the inside space better. All these items fit easily in the bag with some room to spare (this kind of surprised me). I could easily add in my sunglasses case, some snacks, and/or a couple of other small items, all without it feeling overpacked. The iPad was the big test though. I don’t leave the house with this all the time, but wanted a bag in which I could squeeze this in if needed (like when I commute to work or want to go do some reading or work at a coffee shop). My iPad is in a case and I also carry a separate Bluetooth keyboard with it: Now, the iPad is a little tricky to get into the bag. I have to remove the pouches and put the iPad in the way back so that it’s flush against my back. But it fits, which surprised me: The iPad definitely makes the bag a bit heavier and more filled, but it fits. I also found that because the main compartment opens up fairly wide, I could get the iPad and keyboard out without having to remove all my other stuff. This was nice. *Wearing It* One thing people complained about in reviews is that they felt it looked silly to wear a small backpack. This is somewhat subject to individual opinion, but I didn’t think it looked silly. It is fairly comfortable to wear too. The straps are thin but because it’s a small backpack and not weighed down with a ton of stuff, it’s not uncomfortable. The weight is very evenly distributed too. It took me a few minutes to learn how to adjust the straps, and I found that I had to extend them pretty far to get a comfortable fit. *What I Like* * It’s small but it can hold a lot. I do not plan on carrying around my iPad all the time, but it fits and that means I can also use this bag when going into the office. * The material is sturdy and water resistant. * It carries all the things I would carry in a purse/crossbody bag, but without getting in my way. Really nice when out running errands, going to the park, etc. * I love the tote straps. Sometimes it’s just easier to hand-carry the bag and these make that convenient. The backpack straps fold up fairly easily so that they don’t get in the way when carrying by hand. * It is so much easier than a purse to extract things from this bag! The opening unzips pretty wide, and I’ve found this makes it easier to open up and get what I need quickly. With my cross-body bags, I always find myself digging through them to get what I need. This is REALLY nice. *What it CAN’T Do (and things I don’t like and things you should be aware of before buying)* * A water bottle is not going to fit in this thing. The side pockets are small and are only good for small items (like a metro card, snack bar, lipgloss, etc). They also don’t zip, so I wouldn’t put anything of value in there. * The front pocket is smaller than I expected. My iPhone doesn’t fit in there (but it’s also a plus model sporting a Lifeproof case). I keep my keys and Tile in there, along with a tube of lipgloss. * There’s no good external pocket for a large phone. Granted, my iPhone is usually in my hand anyway, but if I want to stash it in my bag, I have to put it in the main compartment. This isn’t a huge deal, because it’s easy to locate stuff in the bag, but something to be aware of when purchasing. * The straps are not padded. This keeps the bag itself light but some may find it uncomfortable when wearing it for long periods of time. Thus far, I’ve only worn it for three hours straight at once (and still found it comfortable). * If you need to carry more than what I carry, get the classic. I may eventually invest in a classic one as well for longer days out. * The straps could be longer. This is possibly my biggest beef. I am a petite person with broad shoulders and I find that I have to extend the straps fairly far to get a comfortable fit. I am not sure this bag is going to work when I’m wearing a winter coat. I am not sure if a larger person would be able to use this bag (or maybe my shoulders are freakishly large). I have about 1/4 length of slack left in the straps as currently adjusted for use when wearing a t-shirt. *How I Plan to Use It* For the foreseeable future, I think this is going to be my daily go-to bag, including for running errands, going out with the kids, and even commuting to work. It’s functional, cute, and holds the basics. As this thing can also hold my iPad, I am going to use it for commuting into the office as well, but will also carry a small tote bag to hold my lunch, water bottle, and extra shoes (if needed), as those items would definitely not fit in this bag.

I decided to go with the mini because I thought the classic would be a little too big. I also went for the mini as an everyday wear and I couldn't be any happier. The size is perfect and I can still fit so much inside. I used it as my carry on while flying and traveling it was perfect. I want to purchase more in different colors.

I had been looking for a little backpack for some time and happened across this one. It is really perfect for what I needed. I try to be as minimalist a woman as possible, but there is plenty of room in it to hold my wallet, keys, lipsticks, cell, a banana, a paperback, and my nalgene bottle. The only qualm I have is that the outside material is a bit stiff and the straps aren't super comfy, but it definitely serves its purpose well in keeping out the weather and holding my junk. BE ADVISED: There are a lot of complaints on here about this bag being too small. It is a small bag, as stated in its product title "MINI," (duh). If you are looking for something to hold your school books or your pet chihuahua, this isn't it. Though, it is a fashionable, awesome, and convenient alternative to the ordinary handbag.

I've been craving this backpack since October. So after months of shopping around, looking for a lower price (it never happened) and deciding on a color (something bright to go with my otherwise all black attire) I splurged. And considering it's tiny body carries all of the things my huge messenger bag carried, I regret nothing. It even fits well on my plump build!

I am a late 40 something who prefers backpacks or crossbody bags to regular handbags. I was looking for a small backpack to function as my everyday bag. I walk to work and like to be hands-free. I really debated about this bag because I thought it might be too small (fyi, there are YouTube videos showing what it looks like on an actual person and what you can fit in it. There are also videos showing how to adjust the straps. Very helpful.) I just took this bag to London for a week and I love it. I have a cross body wallet-on-a-string which I used for my money, phone, transit card, lip balm and passport so those essentials were close at hand. In my mini Kanken I had my guidebook, water bottle, samsung tablet, charger and a small toiletries bag with room to spare. It was perfect. The pockets on the side were not big enough for my water bottle, but held my sunglasses and my small umbrella. It was perfect. I have a North Face backpack which I have traveled with many times, but it has almost too many pockets and when I need something, I have to dig thru them all. I loved the simplicity of this backpack. The most difficult thing for me in deciding to buy this bag was worrying that it was child sized and would look ridiculous on me, and if it would hold enough. Seeing it in action in a video was very helpful, so if you're on the fence, go look on YouTube.

I ordered two of these small back packs for a recent trip to Disneyland; one for our five year old son, and the other for our three year old daughter. They were the perfect size for a day's essentials, including a water bottle, a change of clothes, a jacket, some snacks, and a package of baby wipes. The backpacks are very sturdy with heavy duty zippers, and wiped clean easily. They are small enough that they would be difficult to overpack and become to heavy. An added bonus? They are the exact right dimensions to fit in the basket of our MacLaren stroller without needed to be forced. The only issue we had is that the zippers are a bit stiff and were a challenge for our three year old, although I would imagine they will get easier to use over time.

This backpack is too small for an adult. It looks like it's designed for a child. I could not possibly walk around with this one. Cute, but definitely too juvenile for an adult, in my opinion.

This backpack is very cute and perfect for leisure bike riding, trips to the zoo, and hikes. The strap adjustment is easy once you figure it out. A quick YouTube search and I got it. The straps are not padded and the front pocket is pretty small. It will hold chapstick, my AirPods, and keys. The large compartment is great for a water bottle, iPhone and wallet, with plenty of room to spare. While there are side pockets, they will not hold a phone or water bottle. I’m not sure I would use them. Overall, it’s a great spring/summer backpack that I’m sure I’ll use often.

I love this little bag but it has major design flaws. It is the perfect size to be used as a purse but....the straps are ridiculously short. I am not a big person. I wear a medium shirt and just trying to get it on was difficult. The straps are stiff and once on rub the insides of my arms. Then you have to remove it and to get it off it feels like being tied up. The classic is to big the mini is too little there needs to be an in between size or just make the straps longer. One more thing which is personal preference, I thought the ones with the different colored straps would be cute but they just make the bag really juvenile. Sad about this one because it is a cute bag and a good size for a purse but the straps ruin it. Getting them unsnapped and fed back through those plastic rings also is no picnic and seems like a unnecessary design. The hunt continues for the perfect small backpack.

Between the mini and the full sized kanken, I decided to purpose the mini because I felt like it was a better everyday bag than the full size. Inside, it can fit a medium sized planner, camera case, a water bottle, phone, phone charger, small things like tissues, hand sanitizer, small wallet. It is bigger inside than it appears outside. I got this to wear for a day in the city or on a short hike. I got the burnt orange color because it is a great color against neutrals and it is also a great color to compliment autumn colors.

I'm absolutely obsessed with my Fajallraven Kanken Mini!!! I have been looking for a backpack that is small, sleek, and can still fit a good amount of items. Well, this is it! I can comfortably but my full sized iPad, a spiral notebook, a big wallet, keys, makeup bag, a 20oz Hydroflask water bottle, and more. Personally, I went on You Tube to find reviews, and seeing the size helped me settle on the Mini. The outside is sleek and simple. I have the Black and Ox Red bag, and it's just perfection! Neutral with a pop of color, so I feel good having it in any situation. The material is a bit thin and to start it's definitely a bit stiff, but that goes away over time. The handles are not the most comfortable, but for all the benefits the Mini brings I can totally roll with that. I love that there are two "slit" pockets on the sides of the bag, that i usually put my iPhone 6 in, and an umbrella on the other side when it's needed. I actually walked through a massive thunderstorm the other day, and although I had an umbrella, it was definitely a relief that this was water resistant. It was soaked, and yet nothing inside was even remotely wet! I was blown away!! Overall, this bag is everything I could have hoped for. Now I'm a Fajallraven fan, and will only speak praise for the Kanken Mini! Do some research, and if you decide to go with the Mini, you won't be disappointed!!

These are great little bags. Just the right size for my 2 and 3 year olds. The way that these are constructed is just perfect, the straps are set closer together (in a good way) so that the backpack stays on their back. They are the perfect size, for anyone who wants an idea of just what would fit in one. Here's what we have in it on a daily basis with some room to spare. 1 water bottle, 1 bottle of sunscreen, 1 change of clothes, a small toy of some kind, school papers...so, basically perfect for camp/preschool, etc.

As the description says, this is a mini backpack. The video does a great job of showing off the size of the bag, and it would make a great backpack for a child or a nice day bag for an adult. I bought it because I wanted a tiny but sturdy backpack to carry around my daily essentials, and I find most purses to be clunky and uncomfortable. This bag works great for that and after a little work, the straps can adjust to accommodate any size. A few things I want to point out: 1) The side pockets are very nice, though not quite large enough to hold a regular-sized water bottle 2) The straps are not padded, though pads are available for separate purchase. It is a great little bag, though, and I'm super pleased with the purchase!

Really wanted to like this backpack more than I do. The straps are pretty uncomfortable for a long day (I wore for 10 hours on a 92 degree day at Disneyland) . But what really bummed me out is how filthy it got right away. I am a very clean person and have no problem keeping accessories spotless. I never placed this bag on the ground. It was always on a chair or on my back. It is now filthy. I do not think this is worth the price and if I could I would send it back.

Love this backpack! It’s like a Tardis! It seems small, but can accommodate daily essentials plus much more. I have two huge key fobs, a spare pair of prescription eyeglasses in a fairly large case, a small Wetbrush, tissues, small first aid kit, a small tube of Neutrogena hand lotion, lip balm, small notebook and pen, ear buds, my Kindle, face masks, and hand sanitizer. I keep my phone in one of the side pockets and a spray hand sanitizer in the other. There’s still enough room for a mini iPad, a water bottle, and a sweater.in the main compartment. I keep my small wallet and mini Swiss Army knife in the front pouch. I attached my She Birdie alarm to the top handles. Love the handles so you can just grab your bag! I have several Fjallraven, (love all Fjallraven bags), hip packs and slings, but I have noticed some strain on my shoulders from sling bags. I decided to try the Kanken mini to distribute the weight more evenly to both shoulders. It’s made a noticeable difference. I’m barely aware that I’ve got this strapped to my back. And I’ve got spare room in the bag if I need it. The material is very durable. My son has had a BIG Kanken for 5-6 years. He’s rather rough with it. Overstuffing it and throwing it on the car floor. It’s still holding up and looks great! I know some reviewers stated difficulties with adjusting the straps of the mini, but I guess I was lucky, I didn’t have any issues. Some other reviewers also stated having clothing colors rubbing off on their Kanken mini. Fjallraven does recommend you thoroughly rinse your bag and let it dry before using. I followed the instructions and no colors issues. I’m not sure that’s mentioned enough. I’m not sure new Kanken owners are always aware of that crucial step to preserve the gorgeous colors. I got the Rowan Red. It’s a very cheerful shade of orange! I highly recommend this bag!

I was so skeptical to buy this from Zappos and not Fjällräven direct (due to so many fakes) however Fjällräven did not have the color I wanted and I was afraid that it would take a long time to ship so I took the risk and went for it. I couldn’t have been more pleased! My bag is great... I have watched many videos and read reviews on what to look for to verify your bag as real, therefore when my package arrived I was quick to check that it was real and everything checked out. Not to mention that Zappos service was great.. I placed my order on June 25th with free standard shipping and I was informed that my package was due to arrive between June 30th and July 2nd and leave it to Zappos and UPS to have it here by June 29th. All in all the bag is great and it was worth the the risk of not ordering directly. Thank you Zappos!

Holy moly! This mini backpack is extremely roomy for being so small and light. I got a darker color to hide all the scuff marks I expect will appear as I will be using this for outings with my dog. I have had lighter colored bags before and can attest that, while you can clean them, they always start looking tattered long before you are ready to let them go. The only negative for me is the bigger than life logo. I realize it is reflective, but I just don’t feel like being a walking billboard. I promptly removed it before the first use and will replace it with nice state park or another reflective Patch.

An authentic Mini Kanken backpack. There are so many fakes out there, but the ones sold through Zappos are genuine. Super lightweight, comfortable on my back to wear, and beautiful color (Acorn). It’s a small backpack, but surprisingly fits a lot inside. The straps were initially difficult to figure out, but I YouTubed it and got it. Happy with purchase.
